You may be living in a School Choice town.

Some Vermont towns do not operate a local elementary or middle school. Students in these towns can choose to attend any state-approved school, such as Thaddeus Stevens School. Under Vermont’s school choice system, the “sending” town pays the student's tuition directly to Thaddeus Stevens School. The amount paid is the Vermont statewide average per-pupil cost, as calculated by the Department of Education, which is the same as Thaddeus Stevens School tuition.

Thaddeus Stevens School is an approved independent school eligible to receive tuition under the School Choice system.
