Japanese Program

The Japanese program exposes students to a non-western tradition of culture and language.

We believe that it increases abstract thinking skills and fosters respect and understanding of other cultures.

All students from kindergarten through eighth grade study Japanese, gradually acquiring the skills for conversation and writing.

Cultural studies give context and include Japanese storytelling, games, and crafts. Students learn hiragana, katagana, and some kanji.
