Thaddeus Stevens School Trains for Middlebury Language Initiative

Preparing to implement the language program for grades K-8, four teachers attended the workshop and training to ensure that the program engages the students in the rich experience of language acquisition offering Chinese, French, German, Latin, and Spanish.  The program includes videos of cultural events and dialogues between native speakers and is designed similarly to the Middlebury model of immersion that creates global thinking.  “Now that we have had the training, I’m even more excited about how to incorporate it into other disciplines.  For example, while I’m teaching kindergartners and first graders how to count numbers in English, I can expand that to counting in another language,” says Dean Maria Dufresne.
