Board of Trustees

Board of Trustees:  the Board consists of parents, members of the community, and teachers from neighboring schools.  The School hopes to increase board membership to alums as that population grows.

Deb Bucknam, A graduate of Vermont Law School has practiced law in Vermont since 1979 and a former president of St. Johnsbury Rotary Club.

Dick Lawrence has served on the TSS Board of Trustees for the last three years; in addition he is completing his 12th year in the Vt. House of Representatives. Previous to that he served on the LI Board of Trustees for 32 years; he has also served as Lyndon Town moderator and selectman. Lawrence and his family formerly owned Agway in Lyndonville for 19 years and prior to that were dairy farmers in Lyndon. Dick has served as head of the Caledonia County Fair for the last three decades; he enjoys working with young people and earlier in his life coached Little League and Babe Ruth teams as well as coaching basketball teams in youth leagues. Lawrence remains active on the local level as he is a member of Lyndonville Rotary and on the Advisory Board of Community National Bank.

Wendy Morgan, Peacham, B.A. (Computer Science) and J.D. from The University of California at Berkeley, and graduate of the Vermont Leadership Institute at the Snelling Center for Government.  Ms. Morgan is Chief of the Public Protection Division of the Vermont Attorney General’s Office in Montpelier and a former attorney with Vermont Legal Aid in St. Johnsbury.  She is past president of the Vermont Bar Association, Catamount Arts, Peacham Community Housing, and a past member of the Board of Umbrella.  All four of her children graduated from the Thaddeus Stevens School.

Steve Nichols, Lyndonville, B.S. Broadcast Communications from the University of Hartford.  Owner, Managing Director of Nichols Communications LLC, past Manager of Vermont Broadcast Associates.  Vice Chair of Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital Board of Trustees.  Past President, current board member Lyndon Area Chamber of Commerce.  Past President, Beth El Synagogue, St. Johnsbury.  Board member, Northeast Kingdom Travel & Tourism.  Board member, WWUH Radio.

Matt Young, Lyndon, Vermont. Graduate, Missouri Auction School. Mr. Young is a professional auctioneer and has performed over 2,000 auto auctions all over the northeast. In addition he has conducted over 100 charity auctions in our area. He has served as Zoning Administrator for the Town of Lyndon, and he is a former assistant football coach at Lyndon Institute. He has been both a youth hockey coach and a youth martial arts instructor. Mr. Young owns a small furniture business in Lyndon.  Matt, and his wife Tiffany, have three children currently attending Thaddeus Stevens School.

Betty Ann Gwatkin, Lyndon, Vermont.  Graduate, Suffolk University.  Mrs. Gwatkin is the Vice-President of Human Resources at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, VT.  She received her MBA from Suffolk University in Boston, MA.  Betty Ann is a current director and past-president with the Lyndonville Rotary Club of Rotary International.  She is a past board member of Umbrella, a women & family services agency.  Betty Ann and her husband David moved to the Northeast Kingdom in 1999.  They have two boys who are students at TSS.  

Robert Morgan, Emeritus, Peacham, B.A. Dartmouth College, M.F.A. Stanford University.  Mr. Morgan is a self-employed theatrical designer who works internationally.  He is a former Director of the Theatre Division at Boston University’s School for the Arts, is past President of the Board of Trustees for The K.I.D.S. Place in Barnet, and has served on the Peacham Planning Commission.  All four of his children graduated from the Thaddeus Stevens School.

Special Mention: Mr. Bill Cruess has stepped down as a Trustee, but his work on behalf of the school’s growth is immeasurable. He steered the School through its move from Peacham to Lyndon Center and oversaw the rapid growth in the student population and the expansion of grades offered. His steadfast commitment will not soon be forgotten.  His biography is detailed below:

Former Board Treasurer Danville Chamber of Commerce. Former Board President Danville Rescue. Former Board Treasurer St. Johnsbury Works. Currently a Corporator Northeast Vermont Regional Hospital.
